Machou+
Invented by a dental surgeon, the machou+ mouthguard helps develop orofacial functions in children ages 2 to 6.
Introducing machou+
What is machou+?
machou+ is a soft silicone dental trainer designed for children aged 2 to 6, which corresponds to a full set of 20 baby teeth. It was invented and patented by a dentist who practises orthodontics. It is a Class I medical device and technically a mandibular advancement device (MAD). machou+ needs no heat-moulding: its flexible, one-size design fits any child’s mouth straight out of the box. It is manufactured in France, comes in a bright banana-yellow colour, and is sold online and in pharmacies. Its role is to guide the natural growth of the jaws, the tongue and the teeth during the key years before permanent teeth arrive.
What’s it for?
machou+ helps with the everyday oral habits and sleep problems that can affect a young child’s development. It supports a gentle end to late thumb, finger or dummy sucking. It retrains a poorly positioned tongue and encourages breathing through the nose rather than the mouth. At night, it cushions the teeth against grinding (bruxism) and can help reduce snoring and sleep apnoea by keeping the airway clear. Over time, it also promotes better alignment of the dental arches and a wider palate, so the adult teeth have room to come through. Parents often use it on its own as a preventive tool, and it also fits well alongside orthodontic, speech therapy or osteopathic care.
machouYou or machou+: which one should I choose?
Think of the two devices as consecutive steps rather than rivals. machouYou is step one: its smooth, flat surface is designed mainly to help your child give up the thumb or dummy. machou+ is step two. It adds built-in positioning guides, similar to those on machouKid, that actively hold the teeth and jaws in the right place. This makes it more stable in the mouth and allows it to correct existing imbalances, not just prevent them. It also works on the lower jaw and the airway. If your child still sucks their thumb, start with machouYou. If the habit is gone, or if you are dealing with snoring, grinding, mouth breathing or crooked teeth, go straight to machou+. It is slightly larger than machouYou but still sized for a 20-tooth mouth.
How does Machou+ work?
Your child wears machou+ for at least one hour during the day and every night while asleep, ideally for a minimum of three months. To put it in, your child places the upper teeth first, then slides the lower teeth in, with the “machou+” logo facing up. They then close their lips, rest the tongue against the roof of the mouth, and breathe calmly through the nose.
The guides keep the front teeth edge to edge, which centres the lower jaw and brings it slightly forward to open the airway. Each time your child swallows, the tongue is steered upwards, which helps it develop a mature swallowing pattern. Mild tooth sensitivity on waking or extra saliva in the first few days is normal and usually passes quickly.
